rain or shine ice cream: coconut vegan goodness

kitsilano is gorgeous during the summer/spring months and after shopping for a few hours, a friend and i had lunch at las margaritas and needed some dessert to go along with it. so to rain or shine ice cream it was! (good thing it was a sunny day!)

the whole store has an earnest like feel but not as crowded and a cone is not included in the price but the ice cream flavours are just as unique and locally sourced.

single scoop vegan coconut chocolate chunk:($4.50): i LOVED this. the flavours of coconut and chocolate shavings go extremely perfectly in this combo. you can taste the burst of coconut without the shreds and its not too sweet either! my friend and i both really loved this flavour. the consistency is less creamy than earnest and a bit icier making it feel lighter which i actually prefer. it is less impactful in terms of flavour though.
4.75/5

overall: expensive, but hipster ice cream usually is. a bit farther than earnest but was still very good! i really want to come back and try their taco tuesday! only 6 bucks for 2 scoops in a waffle taco with toppings!

mazazu crepes: greeeeen teaaaaa iceeeee creeeeam

I LOVE GREEN TEA ICE CREAM and the one place i go to most often is mazazu crepe (well 2x is plenty). these two visits were only 1 month apart but the price, texture and flavour were all different!

visit 1

'

green tea ice cream cone ($3.13): this was deliciously creamy and smooth ice cream but melted really really fast. doesn't matter it tasted so good...
5/5

green tea ice cream cone ($3.20): price increased by about 5 cents…and this time it was much stronger in match flavour but was also quite icy and not as creamy smooth but again IT WAS DELICIOUS…
i honestly don't know which one i prefer cause they were both so good…
5/5

overall: consistency is an issue but my craving for SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM IN GREEN TEA MATCHA GOODNESS BEATS OUT EVERYTHING

la casa gelato: try all the cheesecake/nutella/chocolate flavours!

la casa gelato, everyone remembers its pink walls and prominent location on venables. there are over 200 flavours inside and is almost always crowded. the best part is trying the different flavours and being the boring kid i am, i tried the not so strange flavours but YOU KNOW WHAT, thats who i am :D

pineapple ($5): good fruit flavour
4/5

ferrero rocher ($5): delicious hazelnutty chocolate flavours with swirls of thicker paste of hazelnut and chocolate. its so good…
4.5/5

flavours tried:
tiramisu cheesecake: couldnt taste the tiramisu, only cheesecake chunks
strawberry cheesecake : artificial tasting
vanilla cookie: like cookies and cream
cappa mocha: tastes like coffee
Hazelnut Frangelico with Chocolate Shavings: strong flavour, but not hazelnut
creme brûlée: tastes like caramel

overall: everyone has to come at least once, its iconic. although not the best ice cream ever and $5 a cone, you get at least half a scoop - 1 scoop in the different flavours you try!

there's a super nice guy that works at this froshberg gelato/crepe delicious that remembered me when i walked by about 2 hours ago so when i passed by with my mom after eating lunch, we couldnt help but stop and get some dessert!

single scoop ($3.95) - UNFORTUNATELY i dont remember the flavour...either tiramisu, cheesecake or salted caramel (we sampled all 3) BUT it was delicious. smooth and creamy but not too sweet either. amazing quality for food court and the price is not bad either!

crepe escape: lonsdale quay adventures

never would have tried crepe escape if it wasnt for the entertainment book coupon and even with that we only saved $5...

expensive and nothing special, we visited out of convenience and probably would not return without another coupon..and maybe not even then...

three toppings savoury crepe ($8.95) - cheese, proscuitto and ham: crepe was a bit chewy, at least it was made fresh but 9 dollars is a lot

2.5/5

dark chocolate, banana and whipped cream with added ice cream (~$9.95): again, crepe was fresh but ice cream was very supermarket and whipped cream was the nasty stuff ontop of dairy queen cakes. i like chocolate and bananas though!

3/5

overall: its not HORRIBLE but for the price, you can get MUCH BETTER CREPES elsewhere

bella gelataria: worth the 1 hour wait?

after having dinner a guu one summer evening, i headed down to bella gelataria in search for some dessert. being a summer day, i assumed there might be a line but it turned out to be over AN HOUR WAIT. the shop closes at 10? i believe but they were kind enough to continue serving everybody in the line even past closing time.

when you get there, you are allowed to try up to 3 flavours. honestly, i dont remember what i tried but i remember them all being amazing making the choice even harder. this ice cream isnt cheap at around $5 per scoop but it is very good quality gelato as it comes from metal buckets instead of on display like many other places and it just pleases every single tastebud in your mouth.

fortunately (or not) i am not a very picky eater and find most ice cream to be equally good so even though this one was amazing, i did not think it was worth the 1+ hour we waited in line. DEFINITELY worth trying but maybe in the winter?

single scoop hazelnut gelato ($5)

4.5/5 (-.5 for the ridiculous waiting)
